History of OFD

Since 1963, Oregon Freeze Dry has set the standard for freeze-drying/lyophilization. As a pioneer in freeze-drying applications, we’ve provided solutions for the Department of Defense and NASA, as well as dozens of other pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, food, and biotech companies.

Formation & Early Years

Oregon Freeze Dry was formed in 1963, when the company began drying sliced strawberries and other fruit for breakfast cereals.
1963

Vietnam Conflict

Oregon Freeze Dry started making freeze-dried food as Long Range Patrol rations for the military during the Vietnam War.
1965

Mountain House® is Born

Oregon Freeze Dry began marketing its own Mountain House® line of freeze-dried foods for outdoor recreational use.
1969

Mountain House® Expansion

Mountain House® company grew rapidly as it continued to manufacture nutritious, packaged food products.
1980s

OFD Expands Service Offerings

OFD, LLC moved aggressively into the drying of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and biological materials.
1990s

OFD is the World’s Leader in Freeze-drying

OFD processes pharmaceutical and specialty chemicals, medical devices, probiotics, enzymes, proteins and other sensitive biological materials.
