Product Development TechnologistOregon Freeze Dry, Inc., a manufacturing leader in freeze-drying technology, is recruiting to fill the position of Product Development Technologist. JOB DUTIESThis position is responsible for the development of new entrée formulations and individual food ingredients, conducting prescribed research and development procedures and accurately recording data and results. When designated, responsible for legality and accuracy of food labels, obtaining required government approvals, providing nutrition information and ingredient listings for labels, and performing other label activities. Identifies, qualifies and works with new vendors for new food ingredient development per OFD requirements. Works with manufacturing on scale-up production runs to ensure newly developed procedures are adequate and the finished products meet customer needs. Prepares product samples using new or existing procedures and/or new raw materials, conducts test procedures and analyzes results. EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS Requires competent knowledge of fundamental research procedures, entree formulation, analytical procedures and sensory evaluation techniques. A Master's degree in Food Science or closely related field with 2-4 years of relevant experience is preferred; a Bachelor's degree in Food Science with 4-6 years of relevant experience will be considered. This position is responsible for providing written results of sampling, grading and testing that has been done to justify acceptance or rejection and develop product history. Providing a written supplier deviation report in the case of a failure of raw or packaging materials to the QA Supervisor so appropriate action can be taken. Assisting the QA Supervisor or other QA laboratory staff in the documentation, assessment and disposition of sub-standard materials. Performing and documenting preventative maintenance on various laboratory equipment. Notifying the QA Supervisor if laboratory equipment is not functioning properly so repairs can be made in a timely manner and temporary arrangements can be made for accomplishing the required testing during the equipments unavailability. EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 3 years of experience in food manufacturing environment is desired with demonstrated knowledge of analytical laboratory equipment and procedures. Communication skills, both verbal and written are essential. Valid drivers license and reliable transportation needed. EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent is required. College level course work in food science is desired. Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word is highly desired.
